The Environmental Recycling Center is a "One Stop Drop" Recycling Center as part of Abilene's voluntary recycling program.

*As of April 10, 2017, the Environmental Recycling Center will no longer be accepting brush (tree limbs, yard waste). Brush will now be accepted at our new location, the Abilene Brush Center.

    We accept:

    • Bi-metal cans
    • Glass bottles & jars (clean/without lids)
    • Aluminum cans, donated
    • Newspapers, magazines, office paper, and junk mail
    • #1 and #2 plastics only (milk jugs/soda bottles)
    • Cardboard
    • Scrap metal, white goods, and appliances containing refrigerant gasses

     

    We cannot accept:

    • Wood products such as fencing or framing lumber
    • Furniture
    • Concrete
  • Red Containers at the following United Supermarkets are for Newspaper and Cardboard Only
    • 1091 N. Judge Ely Blvd
    • North 10th & Willis

    A reminder, do not use a plastic bag or heavy twine or string when placing newspaper in these containers.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection

    We accept:

    • Do-It-Yourself oil & oil filters
    • Antifreeze, brake fluid, and transmission fluid
    • Automotive style and rechargable batteries
    • Paints
    • Fertilizers and pesticides
    • Solvents and degreasers
    • Poisons
    • Pool chemicals
    • Hobby supplies
    • Aerosol cans
    • Acids and drain cleaners.

    Tires are accepted but require a processing fee.

    • Passenger tires are $2.00 each
    • Truck tires are $5.00 each
    • Tires larger than 24.5" cannot be accepted.
    • An additional charge of $3.00 will be made for any tire on a rim.

    We cannot accept:

    • Any containers not clearly labeled specifying the contents.
    • Containers larger than one gallon (unless arrangements are made with the collection manager)
    • Pressurized gas cylinders
    • Biologically active substances
    • Radioactive materials
    • Products containing dioxins or 2-4-5T
    • Waste generated by business and industry
    • Ammunition - Contact the Abilene Police Department

     

    We Offer:

    • Product exchange program
    • Home chemicals that are received in a sound container with its original label that clearly states its contents will be placed into the program for free reissue.
    • The intent of the program is to use/reuse a product before it is disposed of as hazardous waste.
  • recycle_lockerLocated at the Environmental Recycling Center, the locker is a place where residents can drop off other recyclable items such as:

    • Cardboard rolls from paper towels and toilet paper
    • Clean baby food jars with lids
    • Large coffee cans
    • Cloth remnants
    • Other items that teachers could use for arts and craft projects.

    Teachers may stop by the locker any time the Environmental Recycling center is open.


Neighborhood Recycling Centers

Reminder: Glass containers should be empty and cleaned without lids. Please remove items from plastic bags before disposal.
