October 5 - 8, 2017

The City of Abilene is hosting the 2017 Senior Games on October 5th through 8th. The Senior Games promote physical and mental health and fitness among Texas Senior Citizens by encouraging them to maintain healthy lifestyles and social relationships, to participate in sports and recreational activities with other seniors, and to provide an environment for athletic competition.

Ages 50+ can compete in a variety of events during the Games. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each event and age group.

Registration

Registration begins August 1 until October 4

Abilene Senior Games registration fee is $25 plus an additional fee per event.

General Information

  • All athletes must be at least 50 years old. Athlete's competition age will be based on her/her age on December 31, 2017.
  • Participants will compete in one of the following age categories for both individual and/or doubles sports:

    • 50-54
    • 55-59
    • 60-64
    • 65-69
    • 70-74
    • 75-79
    • 80-84
    • 85-89
    • 90+

    Team sports are divided into the following brackets:

    • 50-59
    • 60-69
    • 70+

    Partner and team age groups will be determined by the age of the youngest partner/team member.

  • All athletes may be required to show proof of age during the Senior Games. Any athlete unable to prove age will be disqualified. Any individual on a team sport who is not of the minimum age or whose age is listed on the roster incorrectly and causes the team to play in the wrong age division will be disqualified. 

  • Athletes are required to provide their own equipment, unless otherwise specified by sport.

  • The Abilene Senior Games reserves the right to cancel any event due to insufficient registration, weather or events beyond their control. In the event of a venue change or cancelation, athletes will be notified by email. Every effort will be made to contact  athletes prior to the start of the event.

  • It is recommended that athletes consult with their personal physician prior to this event. It is also recommended that athletes prepare and train accordingly.

  • Athletes are encouraged to enter more than one event, as long as events are not held at conflicting times. Scheduling cannot be done to accommodate other events. You must be a member of a team to enter the team events, teams/doubles will not be assigned. It is your responsibility to be at each scheduled event in which you are registered. No refunds will be given if you miss a scheduled event due to participation in another event scheduled for the same day.

  • Athletes must have a partner to enter doubles events. During registration, you must enter your partners name when asked, doubles will not be assigned. Each partner or team member must complete their own registration form.

  • Team players will register individually, by selecting the team sport. During registration you must include your team name and teams must meet roster requirements to participate. Basketball has a four athlete minimum and 8 athlete maximum.

Opening Ceremony

The Senior Games opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 5 at 8:00 am at the Rose Park Senior Center. Join the celebration and pick up your Games packet!

 

Reception

Take a break from the competition with a fun get together! A Sock Hop will be held on Saturday, October 7 at 7:00 pm at the Rose Park Senior Activity Center.
