Abilene Author Showcase (Festival Preview Session)

Local authors who have had a book published within the last 12 months will be available at the library, highlighting the local writing talent in our community. Everyone is welcome to come out and attend this reception, and hear brief remarks from each of the authors present.

If you, or someone you know, qualifies to be honored at this event, feel free to contact Janis Test at 325-676-6017.  We'd love to see as many of you as possible.

Boots & Books Culinary Luncheon (Ticketed Event)

You won't want to miss this special event being hosted at the Hunter Welcome Center on the campus of Abilene Christian University.  Guests will be treated to an incredible lunch, remarks from two of this year's featured authors including Jeff Guinn (Fort Worth; this year's A.C. Greene Award Winner) and Tiffany Harelik (Austin; author of Big Country Cookbook), and more.

Texas Cookbook Gala (Ticketed Event | Sold Out)

As the featured fundraiser of the festival, the Cookbook Gala is a black tie event hosted at the Abilene Country Club.  This program will feature the cookbook author/s at the festival, along with Texas vintners, and guests will be treated to an evening of wonderful food, great friends, and good times.  Come early for a chance to meet the featured chefs, acquire copies of their cookbooks, and experience a truly amazing evening at the festival.

Various Local School Throughout the Day

Authors in Schools Sessions

Two featured children's authors will be speaking at six elementary schools throughout the day, affording students with the chance to participate in the festival fun. It's an exciting way to help promote reading and possibly develop some future writers.

This year's program will feature two local authors including Penny Klostermann and her latest book titled A Cooked-Up Fairy Tale, and Steven Moore with his book titled Theodore Thumbs.

The community is invited to attend a great lineup of author presentations at your Abilene Public Library.  Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch, or purchase one from the Friends of the Library for $5.  Below is a listing of author sessions.

Workshop on Writing Family Stories

Join featured author Lisa Wingate as she leads a free workshop on how to write your family's stories.  Preserving your family history and experiences will not only benefit your family now, but will be great for future generations to come.  Everyone is invited to come learn from Wingate in this exciting event.

The community is welcome to attend a second session of the author presentations and panels events at your Abilene Public Library. This will be the final day of the festival, and your final chance to connect with great authors from the Lone Star State.  Below is a listing of the day's activities.

Author Lunch Program & Award Presentation

The National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature will host a special event featuring award-winning children's author Chris Barton. From picture books to nonfiction entries, Barton is known for popular titles including the "Mighty Truck" books, Shark vs. Train, Whoosh!, and 88 Instruments.

Guests will also see the presentation of the 2017 Ricki Brown Librarian of the Year Award. Join us in celebrating and honoring the fourth recipient at the festival.

Boxed lunches will also be available for purchase for $5, while supplies last, and free for registered teachers and librarians.

"20 Tips for Better Writing" Workshop

Writers are invited to attend this final festival event featuring author Diane Kelly, a former tax advisor, who later became an author best known for her Tara Holloway series.  Having been awarded the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Award, she will be on hand to discuss methods you can incorporate into your own system for improving your writing.
